Botox Q & A
What is Botox?
In the world of cosmetic injectables, Botox is arguably the grandfather of them all. Dr. Soudabeh Ahadi at Monroe OBGYN uses Botox to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe:
- Crow’s feet
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines
Every time you squint, smile, or frown, your muscles contract to form lines on the upper half of your face. Over time, these lines become entrenched, lingering long after your facial expression has disappeared. Botox is a neuromodulator that temporarily paralyzes the muscles responsible for these lines, leaving a smooth surface in its wake.
What are dermal fillers?
Another effect of aging is the loss of volume in your face. As you get older, your collagen production naturally begins to wane, and your skin starts to sag and droop. On top of this, the thin layer of fat underneath your skin begins to shift downward, leaving you with hollowed cheeks, thinning lips, and deep nasolabial folds around your mouth.
The Monroe OBGYN team helps you fight back against this volume loss with a line of dermal fillers called Juvéderm®. Juvéderm contains hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in your body, to restore volume to your face, giving you more fullness that harkens back to your younger years.
What is Kybella®?
While your face is one of the first areas to show signs of aging, the skin on your neck quickly follows suit. As you lose collagen in your skin, fat begins to collect under your neck, giving you a sagging profile. Weight gain can also cause the same effect.
Kybella is an injection that works by destroying the fat cells under your chin, also called the submental area. After one to six treatments, the fat is destroyed, giving you a more youthful, pronounced profile.
Which cosmetic injectable is right for me?
This question depends entirely on your cosmetic goals. Each of the FDA-approved injectables works on different areas of your face and neck, and the Monroe OBGYN team can use them separately or in combination to give you the look you desire.
In fact, many patients use all three: Botox to tackle the lines on the upper half of their face; Juvéderm for the loss of volume on the lower half; and Kybella to tackle the fat underneath their chin. The combined result of all three can change your face dramatically, giving you a more youthful and energetic appearance.
